Angelina Jolie is bringing her new son home. The actress and 3-year-old Pax Thien Jolie, whom she adopted last week from an orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City, left Hanoi's Noi Bai Airport in a private jet on Wednesday, bound for home – and, for Pax, a new life – in the U.S. Jolie, 31, understands the challenges her new son will face as the latest addition to the world's most famous multicultural family. "You can imagine what courage it takes to be in all new surroundings, with new people and a new language," she tells PEOPLE in its new issue. "He is very strong." But she is committed to making his transition as smooth as possible. "It will take him a while to realize he has a family," she says, "and that his new life is permanent and that it won't keep changing." The boy with the sweetly shy smile and the big brown eyes joins big brother Maddox, 5 (adopted from Cambodia), sister Zahara, 2 (adopted from Ethiopia) and 10-month-old Shiloh, the daughter born to Jolie and Brad Pitt, 43, in May. As for Dad, because Vietnamese regulations don't allow unmarried couples to co-adopt, Jolie adopted Pax as a single parent while Pitt remained in Los Angeles, where he is filming The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. "He has specific days on the movie that couldn't be changed or production would run over," says his rep. But Jolie still made sure to bring a welcoming committee: Joined by Maddox and Zahara – Shiloh has been on the Button set every day with her father – the new mom used her first few days with Pax to begin gently bonding with him and to allow her other kids to do the same. "We are slowly beginning to build his trust and bond," Jolie says, "but it will feel complete only when we are all together."

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's decision to add a child from Vietnam to their family has been a long time coming. For months the couple have been preparing to find a sibling for Maddox, 5, Zahara, 2, and 10-month-old Shiloh, a "process that began shortly after Shiloh was born [in May]," a source tells PEOPLE in its new issue. It wasn't until March 2 that a Vietnamese official revealed that Jolie, 31, had filed preliminary papers to adopt a child – according to one adoption worker, "a boy between the ages of 3 and 5." (Vu Duc Long, the head of the country's international adoption department, told the Associated Press on Wednesday that the boy is between the ages of 3 and 4 and from the Tam Binh orphanage on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City.) But the source close to Jolie says there are still a few more steps before welcoming a new family member. "It's wonderful that people are excited about it," says the friend. "But she is only at the beginning of a very comprehensive and detailed process." Why Vietnam? Jolie has traveled extensively in Southeast Asia and has visited the country at least twice. After adopting Maddox from Cambodia and Zahara from Ethiopia, she mused to Good Morning America in December that it might be a good idea to "balance the races so there's another African person in the house for Z [and] another Asian person in the house for Mad." As they navigate adoption red tape, the family of five has been happily settled in New Orleans since January, where Pitt, 43, has been filming the romance The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Locals frequently spot them strolling through the French Quarter, buying baby clothes (a "Dirty South" T-shirt for Maddox, a black dress for Zahara and a hot-pink onesie for Shiloh) and dining out with Button costar Cate Blanchett. Soon they'll return home to L.A., where Pitt will resume filming. Jolie, meanwhile, continues to speak out about the atrocities in Darfur as she awaits the phone call that will enable her to officially add to her brood. The good news can't come soon enough. "I just want more kids," she told PEOPLE recently. "I'm having a great time."

Britney Spears saw her children during a weekend visit to Promises, PEOPLE has learned. Estranged husband Kevin Federline brought their boys, Sean Preston, 17 months, and Jayden, 5 months, to the Malibu rehab center Saturday evening, a source says. "The kids are his No. 1 priority and they always have been," the source says. "He's so stressed out right now. He only wants the best for Britney and the kids." This was the second time Federline has visited his estranged wife. He also went to Promises on Friday without the children. Spears 25, voluntarily checked herself into the residential rehab center on Feb. 20, left the next morning, then returned Thursday night.The singer's father, Jamie Spears, 54, told FOX News from his home in Louisiana that his daughter is "a sick little girl. ... We're just trying to take care of her."

Anna Nicole Smith's 5-month-old daughter Dannielynn Hope is being cared for at the Bahamas home that Smith and companion Howard K. Stern shared together, PEOPLE has learned. Smith lawyer Ron Rale said Friday that Dannielynn is now in the care of Stern's mother and sister. (Stern is listed on Dannielynn's birth certificate as her father.) The baby was taken to the house Saturday afternoon, wearing a white lace headband and carried inside a basinet by two women who arrived in a caravan of vehicles, according to Godfrey Pinder, the Bahamas lawyer whose client is the original owner of the home and is involved in a property dispute with Smith and Stern. Pinder also said that Stern was in the Bahamas as early as Thursday, the day of Anna Nicole's death, arriving that night to pick up some of Smith's personal items and baby items before returning to Florida.

(Earlier Friday, Arthur told ABC's Good Morning America that she blamed drugs for her daughter's death.) Arthur went to the Bahamas to locate Dannielynn because she "feared for her granddaughter's safety," the Nassau Guardian newspaper reported. Arthur went to the Ministry of Social Services, and ultimately ended up at police headquarters and met briefly with Reginald Ferguson, assistant commissioner of the Royal Bahamian Police. "I don't know what her expectations were, but I had to advise her to seek legal counsel to find out what course of action she can take," Ferguson told the Associated Press. Ferguson said Arthur was traveling by limousine and was trailed by camera crews.
